Rabbi Carrie Vogel

Rabbi Carrie Vogel serves as the Director of the Jewish Experience Center. Carrie will oversee and work with the JEC team to make sure that our programming and experiences are at the highest level.

Carrie was ordained as a rabbi from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion here in Los Angeles in 2009. In addition she received a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters in 2006 and a Master of Arts in Jewish Education in 2007 from HUC-JIR. During Carrie’s time in rabbinic school she worked at a number of synagogues, camps and day schools in the greater Los Angeles area. She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Cincinnati.

Carrie and her husband Brian are the proud parents of their son, Jonah. She loves The Ohio State Buckeyes, hiking and reading.

Rachel Twersky has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from University of Arizona and is currently working on her Master of Arts in Education from American Jewish University. She grew up in Los Angeles where she developed her passion for Judaic Education.

Rachel was a teacher in our program for three years and is very excited to be back and reconnect with families and staff at Kehillat Israel. In her free time, Rachel enjoys sports, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.

Jennifer Glickman

Jennifer received a B.A.in sociology from the University of California, San Diego. Immediately after graduating UCSD, Jennifer worked in the corporate world as a human resources professional.

After gaining valuable work experience, she returned to graduate school at California State University, Northridge to earn a Masters in Social Work (MSW). Since graduating with her MSW, she worked passionately at a foster/adoption agency as a social worker, advocating for foster children, engaging foster/adoptive parents, and leading support groups.

Since childhood, Jennifer has been active in the Jewish community, participating in youth groups including BBG (B’nai Brith Girls) and USY (United Synagogue Youth). Her strong Jewish identity, passion for inspiring children, teens, and families, and her commitment totikkun olam and informal learning combine to make her a perfect youth leader. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, yoga, and swimming.

Rachel Levin

Rachel Levin is excited to be a part of the Jewish Experience Center team as JEC Assistant Director, Experiential Education. Rachel graduated from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion, Los Angeles

in 2012 with Masters Degrees in Jewish Education and Jewish Nonprofit Management. She is also a graduate of UC Berkeley where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies with an emphasis in Judaism.

During her time at HUC-JIR, Rachel interned at KI and loved being a part of the JEC community, including going to OJE at camp each month. Her passion for Jewish and experiential education comes from years attending and working with religious schools, summer camps, Israel trips, youth groups, and an ECC. Most recently, she worked at the iCenter for Israel Education in Northbrook, IL. In her free time, Rachel loves running, photography, and appreciating the California sunshine.

Roxanne Bañuelos serves as our Executive Assistant in the JEC. Roxanne received a BA in English with a minor in Sociology as well as a BA in Communications Studies from Loyola Marymount University.

Right after college she attended California State University Northridge to receive a MA in Communication Studies. Her studies were about to take her to the University of Denver to complete a PhD in Critical Cultural Studies in 2007, however, life offered her several teaching positions in the Los Angeles area that kept her here. When she is not working in the JEC office at KI she can be found teaching adjunct classes in Rhetoric, English Literature and Performance, Communication Studies and Humanities at several colleges/universities on the Westside. Roxanne attends and presents her research at several academic conferences a year and finds joy in working with student of all ages. When she actually gets a break from the field of education she enjoys walking around the Palisades bluffs, hiking, sampling new restaurants and spending time with her two precious pups Ella and Maci.

Jeffrey Baldinger

My name is Jeffrey Baldinger and this is my third year teaching at KI. This year I will be tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I enjoy hiking. Something I am looking forward to this year is creating new friendships with staff, students and families.

My name is Gili Beeri and this is my fourteenth year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 2nd grade. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my kids, reading and working out. Something I am looking forward to this year is working with Debbie and my daughter Maya.

My name is Judy Battaglia and this is my second year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 5th grade, 7th grade and facilitating a Rosh Hodesh group for 6th grade girls. In my spare time I like to read, write, dance, and collect rocks and sea shells. Something I am looking forward to this year is making a difference (both personally and politically).

My name is Debbie Dreiman and this is my fifth year teaching at KI. This year I am teaching 2nd and tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I enjoy relaxing and watching TV. Something I am looking forward to this year is working with Gili.

Rebecca Freund

My name is Rebecca Freund and this is my eleventh year teaching at KI. This year I am tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I like to play games like 3 truths and a lie and other fun games. Something I am looking forward to this year is seeing my old students and meeting my new ones.

Sabrina Khalili

My name is Sabrina Khalili and this is my first year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 1st grade. In my spare time I love photography. Something I am looking forward to this year is providing a fun and rewarding educational experience for all of the students!

Joey Seidman

My name is  Joey Seidman  and this is my  second year teaching at KI, but my first year teaching in the JEC. This year I will be teaching 1st grade. In my spare time I like to work out at the gym and relax at the beach. Something I am looking forward to this year is meeting all of the JEC families I haven’t met from the ECC.

Julia Gullotti

My name is Julia Gullotti and this is my third year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 3rd grade. In my spare time I enjoy watching movies, going to the beach and creating art. Something I am looking forward to this year is teaching a new set of students!

Jane Roth

My name is Jane Roth and this is my second year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 3rd grade. In my spare time I enjoy singing, writing and being in nature. Something I am looking forward to this year is learning connecting with new students.

Elysha Ben David

My name is Elysha Ben David and this is my first year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 4th grade and tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I enjoy hiking and curling up with a good book. Something I am looking forward to this year is sharing my experience and close connectionion to Judaism and Israel with my students.

Camille Jackson

My name is Camille Jackson and this is my fourth year teaching at KI. This year I will be tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I enjoy reading and hiking. Something I am looking forward to this year is being able to excite my students about learning Hebrew.

Jessica Jacobs

My name is Jessica Jacobs and this is my 7th year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 7th grade and tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I enjoy performing improv comedy, writing a food blog called “LA on $20 a Day,” practicing yoga and taking my Pomeranian Chou Chou out on walks. Something I am looking forward to this year is instilling the idea of philanthropy in our students.

Julia Jasiunas

My name is Julia Jasiunas and this is my third year teaching at KI. This year I am teaching Kindergarten. In my spare time, I love watching old musicals and going to yoga. Something I’m looking forward to this year is working with the Kindergarteners again!

Beryl Bessemer

My name is Beryl Bessemer and this is my first year teaching at KI.This year I will be teaching 4th grade. In my spare time I enjoy cooking and baking for my family and friends, hiking, history, and chevruta study! Something I am looking forward to this year is following the weekly parsha and learning more about LA’s history.

Michelle Kaz

My name is Michelle Kaz and this is my fifteenth year teaching at KI! This year I will be an OJE teacher and Hebrew tutor. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, Zumba, and dancing. Something I am looking forward to this year is being able to work with my colleagues and with all of the kids!

Elenna (Lenny) King

My name is Elenna King and this is my eigth year teaching at KI. This year I am teaching 6th grade and KITT. In my spare time I like to get crafty, cook and travel. Something I am looking forward to this year is learning from a new class of students and exploring their Torah portions together.

Lauren Jane (LJ) Levine

My name is Lauren Jane Levine and this is my twelvth year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 6th, facilitating KITT and working as the new Art Specialist in the JEC. In my spare time I enjoy hiking, playing with my dogs and going to Dodger games. Something I am looking forward to this year is meeting students I haven’t taught before.

Mikah Atkind

My name is Mikah Atkind and this is my first year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 5th grade. In my spare time I enjoy pilates, cooking, playing piano, reading and hanging out with friends. Something I am looking forward to this year is getting to know the community.

Jandira Raphael

My name is Jandira Raphael and this is my ninth year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching Kindergarten. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my grandson. Something I am looking forward to this year is meeting new people and working with Rabbi Carrie.

Ariella Breitler

My name is Ariella Breitler and this is my first year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 6th grade. In my spare time I enjoy exploring Los Angeles like a tourist, teaching Hebrew and hanging out with my BFF who’s two years old! Something I am looking forward to this year is getting to know my awesome students.

Sarah Kragen

My name is Sarah Kragen and this is my third year teaching at KI, but my second year teaching in the JEC. This year I will be teaching 3rd and 4th grade as well as tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I enjoy baking, hiking, biking and spending time with my friends and my family. Something I am looking forward to this year is getting to know the students.

Rachael Stone

My name is Rachael Stone and this is my second year teaching at KI. This year I will be tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I enjoy yoga, swimming, going to museums and concerts, and hiking. Something I am looking forward to this year is learning from all of my students.

Robert Blachman

My name is Robert Blachman and this is my first year teaching at KI. This year I am teaching in OJE and tutoring Hebrew. In my spare time I play Dungeons and Dragons. Something I am looking forward to this year is getting to know everyone.

Daniel Sher 

My name is Daniel Sher and this is my second year teaching at KI. This year I will be tutoring Hebrew, teaching OJE, facilitating a Shevet Achim group for teen boys and serving as the JEC and temple’s Rabbin Intern. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wife and our newborn child. Something I am looking forward to this year is taking part in increasing activites at KI.

My name is Hannah Fine and this is my first year working at KI. This year I will be working as the Part Time Office Administrator on Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. Something I am looking forward to this year is working with the KI community and schools.

Brooke Botwinick

My name is Brooke Botwinick and this is my second year teaching at KI. This year I will be teaching 7th grade.  In my spare time I enjoy baking, making jewelry, and doing yoga. Something I’m looking forward to this year is working with the 7th graders and the 7th grade group of Rosh Hodesh girls.
